It seems like at least one Republican is putting aside party allegiances to make comments about the elephant in the White House.
Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee intellectually won the war of tweeted words that went viral over the weekend. He was retorting, of course, to President Everlasting Naysayer.
Corker, who is not seeking re-election in 2018, has nothing to lose. In a Sunday New York Times interview, he outright said Trump is operating “like he’s doing ‘The Apprentice’” and his imbecilic conduct is putting us “on a path to World War III.” This is a REPUBLICAN saying this. For all the things that made Corker embrace the Grand Old Party, he probably loves his grandchildren more and is truly alarmed that the lunatic has taken over the asylum. The North Korea situation is a case in point.
“A lot of people think that there is some kind of ‘good cop, bad cop’ act underway, but that’s just not true,” Corker said.
Last week’s brouhaha with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson (who allegedly called Trump a “fucking moron” and clearly many agree with him) gave cause for Corker to make on-camera comments, stating Tillerson, WH Chief of Staff John Kelly and Secretary of Defense James Mattis are “people that help separate our country from chaos.” In the Times interview, he expressed concern that Trump is undermining diplomatic efforts with his bombastic tweets. The majority of the seasoned Republican senators know what “we’re dealing with here,” Corker explained.
“Of course they understand the volatility that we’re dealing with and the tremendous amount of work that it takes by people around him to keep him in the middle of the road,” he said. “I know for a fact that every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain him.”
Corker went on to question Trump’s false tweets and indirectly addressed Trump’s fitness for office.
“I don’t think he appreciates that when the President of the United States speaks and says the things that he does, the impact that it has around the world, especially in the region that he’s addressing.”
It is to these grim warnings that Orange Mess reacted with his current Twitter fight, claiming Corker “begged” for a 2018 endorsement, and that the Senator is retiring because he “didn’t have the guts to run” without his tiny thumbs-up.
“It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center,” Corker tweeted in response. “Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”
Perhaps it was not Senior White House advisor Kellyane Conway’s shift that morning, but today she trotted herself out in order to criticize Corker for responding to Trump! Does she think her logic works? It works for Fox & Friends, where with a straight face she stated, “I find tweets like this to be incredibly irresponsible,” and continued with more gibberish typical of her stream-of-bravado style honed at conservative finishing school.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), currently on the outs with Tantrump, discretely praised Corker as “a valuable member of the Senate Republican caucus.” This was in response to Associated Press asking McConnell for his reaction to the recent Trump Twitter playground games.
“He’s an important part of our team and he’s a particularly important part of the budget debate which will be on the floor next week.”
Regarding Trump’s claim about the so-called endorsement procurement, Corker’s chief of staff Todd Womack confirms Trump called Corker “early last week and asked him to reconsider his decision not to seek re-election and reaffirmed that he would have endorsed him, as he has said many times.”
People, it seems Senator Corker has ghosted Trump!
