Oh my God! This kid! This mom! This drag mother! Whitney Houston once sang that children are the future, well, it’s a shame she didn’t live to see this child and his drag persona Lactatia(!). In this video, posted by Elle magazine with the comment “This 8-year-old boy loves transforming into drag queen Lactatia—and he won’t let other people stop him from doing what makes him feel accepted” we meet the kid, Nemis, and his amazing mother, who deserves endless praise his mother for telling the world she’s fine with the way he chooses to express himself as long as he’s a nice person and confesses that she’s overwhelmed with pride.
Then along comes his drag mother, AKA Vivacious, a Rupaul’s Drag Race vet, who offers some invaluable advice that would also make great bumper stickers: “Keep going.” “Learn your lyrics well.” “Give them face.” “Give them choreography.” Wait, this sounds like dialogue from the Paris Is Burning sequel.
Whether the kid, who takes vogueing classes, will continue with drag, who can say. He offers a clue, “Probably. I hope I’m still going to be a drag queen… I really hope I can keep Lactatia inside of me forever.” So do we!
