The son of legendary actor Sally Field has publicly proclaimed his crush on figure-skating star Adam Rippon, Bronze Medalist in the 2018 Winter Olympics.
“I hate being earnest but an openly, ‘non-passing,’ sassy, beautiful gay 20-something daring America not to love him and becoming the sweetheart of the Olympic Games is very moving to me,” wrote Sam Greisman on Twitter last Thursday.
The 30-year-old Greisman is a film writer and director whose mother happens to be two-time Oscar winner Sally Field. Greisman had previously tweeted to @Adaripp, “Also marry me Adam.”
Since moms will be moms, Field took it upon herself to tag Rippon when she retweeted her son’s Twitter gushing.
Although Greisman initially reacted to his mother’s involvement with “Yikes,” he shared a screenshot of the messages between them, with Field cheering her son on:
This is all a great premise for a new television series.
Field started her career in the 1960s, beginning her status as an American sweetheart in her own right in the title role of Gidget, the television series about Malibu surf culture. Soon after she went on to star in The Flying Nun as the iconic Sister Bertrille. Field won two Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role, the first for Norma Rae (1979), followed by Places in the Heart (1984). She is also known for playing Mrs. Gump in Forrest Gump and Mary Todd Lincoln in Lincoln.
Aside from Greisman’s romantic feelings, he is correct in praising Rippon as a beacon of patriotic pride for the U.S. and as a role model for the entire world. Not only is the 28-year-old skater a stellar athlete (and was a child prodigy on top of that), he’s completely confident in his own skin, exuding an eloquent command, whether on TV or social media.
Plus, he’s pinpoint hilarious. On February 14 Rippon tweeted:
“With everything going on in the media about me this Valentine’s Day I don’t want people to get distracted and forget how beautiful I am (on the outside).”
Since Rippon is busy in PyeongChang right now as a stalwart supporter of Team USA—“My teammates were there for me during my events, and now I NEED to be there for them”—he has not yet responded to Sam or Sally.
