Flagrant is always glad to talk about LGBTQ icon Frank Ocean. The R&B tour de force recently celebrated his 30th birthday (on October 28, he’s a Scorpio!) with a fantabulous “Paris is Burning” themed drag ball featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race cast members. The birthday boy participated in the glamorous fun by “walking” in a skintight ensemble of glittery tights topped with a shocking-pink shirt and bespeckled shades alongside drag queen Gia Gunn who brought jaw-dropping opulence. Other partygoers seen were up and coming R&B star SZA, internet comedian Joanne The Scammer, and Tyler The Creator who completed his walk in a more classic yet impeccable outfit.
Keeping busy, a few days later Ocean appeared at Spotify’s first Secret Genius Awards. Held at Downtown Los Angeles’ Vibiana Cathedral, Ocean showed up to present illustrious music producer (Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, Jay-Z) Rick Rubin with the Legendary Genius award.
“Come get this thang!” Ocean beckoned to the Def Jam co-founder. Rubin emerged on the stage, turning towards his standing ovation offered by well-groomed tech executives, holding his hands in a sign of Namaste over his fossilized white beard.
The annual event celebrates songwriters whose songs are the most $treamed on Spotify, so it makes sense that Frank Ocean and Rick Rubin would be darlings of that streaming service.
