Who was the boss? The answer is always Miss Diana Ross. However, if you expected the legendary entertainer to exhibit some of the alleged diva-like temperament for which is she is famous during her appearance at The Abbey last night, you were in for a pleasant surprise. The former lead singer of the Supremes stopped by the West Hollywood hotspot to promote her newest single, a dance-charged remix of her 1970 classic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” All eyes were on the 73-year-old icon, who looked ageless clad in a form-fitting black one-piece bodysuit cinched with a metallic belt, as she swept into the nightclub escorted by her publicist and handsome son, actor Evan Ross. It was a welcome return, as the longtime fave of LGBTQ fans is no stranger to WeHo crowds—more than two decades ago Ross filmed a music video atop a float in the city’s pride parade.
Once inside the roped-off VIP section, Ross was soon surrounded by a bevy of gyrating go-go boys and she reveled in the moment before showing some moves of her own to the strains of Whitney Houston’s “I Want to Dance With Somebody,” Madonna’s “Vogue” and former duet partner Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long.” Occasionally turning around to reach out and touch hands, wave and blow kisses to the ecstatic audience, Ross even climbed up on the stage to get down next to the scantily-clad dancers as soon her own music began to play.
