The already impressive cast features Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Manchester By The Sea’s breakout star Lucas Hedges, Joel Edgerton and filmmaker/actor Xavier Dolan. Emily Hinkler, David Joseph Craig, Jesse LaTourette, Theodore Pellerin, Britton Sear round out the cast.
Edgerton will direct, write and co-produce the film which is based on book, Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith and Family by Garrard Conley.
The film’s plot: the son (Hedges) of a Baptist minister who is outed by his parents (Kidman and Crowe) and forced to choose between being permanently exiled and shunned by his friends and family or attend a church-supported gay conversion therapy program.
Edgerton’s directorial debut was the hit psychological thriller The Gift starring himself, Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall.
Surely this has to be one of the most out casts ever assembled: Jones, Dolan, Sivan and Craig! Hollywood seems to have taken note and decided, finally to cast ACTUAL LGBTQ actors in one of our stories.
