You may recall that on Saved by the Bell, Kelly and the gang hung out in the fictional neighborhood of Palisades, which you assumed was real because it sounded like a swanky-ass neighborhood that would actually be in L.A.
Now, a pop-up diner based on the equally fictional The Max, which “resides” in Palisades, is moving from Chicago to L.A. The diner, adorable dubbed “Saved By The Max,” is “graduating” to L.A. (actually WeHo) after a sold-out run in The Windy City. Hopefully the diner doesn’t “graduate” too much and become as mature as Saved by the Bell: The College Years, because that show was kind of depressing.
Whoa! Interior of “Saved by the Max” Chicago diner
The Chicago outpost was a hit. People magazine raved, “I’m happy to tell diehard SBTB fans the spot totally lives up to every 90s fantasy you had of joining Zack Morris & Co. for a milkshake and fries at their favorite hangout.”
If you ever watched and enjoyed SBTB, then you’ll be happy to know that “Saved By The Max” closely resembles the Max of the show. You just won’t see Bayside High’s finest Slater, Lisa, Jessie, or Screech because they’re probably off snorting Adderall in preparation for their A.P. Bio exam.
There’s also a full menu with series-inspired meal names and even (GASP) an “I’m So Excited” drink (vodka, Red Bull, and rose.) Oh, and you can show up dressed like your favorite SBTB character if you want, and no one will think you’re weird — except for maybe the waiters, who probably wish you’d put as much thought into your tip as you did your Kelly Kapowski drag ensemble.
Also, reservations are HIGHLY recommended, as Saved By The Max has limited availability — but that shouldn’t be a problem for all of y’all who planned your homework, trips to the mall, and microwave snack binges around whenever Saved by the Bell was airing that week.
