Bad Vibes: Coachella Owner Anschutz Continues Support Of Right Wing Causes

Entertainment, Featured

The New York Times, CNN, ABC, and MSNBC are all fake news, so who’s out there asking the real questions now? Apparently, Teen Vogue. The site recently tackled Philip Anschutz, the owner of Coachella, and seemed to provide conclusive evidence that he’s a homophobic, racist, misogynist dick holster. Wow, what a surprise: No-chella is not just inhabited by clueless straight white people, but also run by one.

As owner of the company AEG, which manages Coachella, Anschutz has donated his profits to such upstanding groups as the Alliance Defending Freedom, the Family Research Council, and the National Christian Foundation, which have collectively done such heartwarming things as compare same-sex marriage to bestiality. The Family Research Council (FRC) is also known for its anti-transgender and anti-abortion stances. (Meanwhile, conservatives argue that the FRC isn’t a hate group, LOL.)

Additionally, Anschutz used his position as founder of The Washington Examiner to ensure that the paper would include “nothing but conservative columns and conservative op-ed writers.” Oh, and Anschutz also donates to birther politicians, and is a “financier of climate science denial groups,” according to Greenpeace, in case you weren’t already convinced of his terribleness. Anschutz even attends regular climate change policy meetings in an attempt to popularize a message of climate change denial, which will totally not at all jeopardize the Coachella festival, which happens in California, a coastal state.

As for the artists attending Coachella, many of them are just going the usual route of pretending like none of this is happening. However, one artist, Mitski, acknowledged the accusations against Anschutz, but then added, “Not going would only hurt me not the fest.”

That’s fair for someone like Mitski, but what about for someone with clout, like, idk, Beyonce or The Weeknd? If The Weeknd dropped out of Coachella because of its homophobic owner, similar to how he just broke with H&M over their racist “monkey” shirts, people might actually lose their shit and do something about Anschutz.

We’re waiting.
