The Last of Leia: We Have Some Thoughts About The New ‘Star Wars’ Trailer

Entertainment, Featured

The official new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has dropped, and we have thoughts. Chief among those is that it’s eerily moving to see Carrie Fisher on screen as Princess/Senator/General Leia Organa of Alderaan in what will now be her final film appearance (sob.) Nooooooooooooo!

Overall, it looks like our favorite galaxy far, far away is going to be the home of some major new alliances and showdowns. In addition to showing Finn and Rey getting captured by the bad guys, the trailer hints at a possible partnership between Rey and Kylo Ren. Nooooooo.

Here are some illuminating screenshots:

The trailer opens with Kylo Ren serving body-ody-ody in a classic sillouhette as he commands his 18 million Instagram followers to get in Formation, build war machines, and roll out his new official hashtag, #WhoRenTheWorld.

But then Rey walks up to a magical tree and Game of Thrones fans get horrifying instant flashbacks to Bran’s interminable Three-Eyed Raven storyline. Hopefully, Rey is way cooler about becoming enlightened and doesn’t feel like she needs to talk about it all the time like Bran.

Then there’s Mark Hamill, pre-beating his face, staring at Rey’s expert padding in awe. He can never seem to get the perfect butt: It’s always too wide or too uneven.

We also get a glimpse of an adorable/terrifying new creature that seems to be a baby seal with wings who can also somehow co-pilot warplanes. Hoping Toys R Us doesn’t go bankrupt before Christmas because we really want this merch in our stocking.

Poe looks out into space longing for his true love, Finn …

And finally, Captain Phabulous shows up in her overly-dramatic Stormtrooper getup and threatens Finn. Hopefully he destroys her so that he can finally get home to make out with Poe before How to Get Away with Murder starts!

Directed by Rian Johnson, Episode 8 will hit theaters on December 15. Check out the trailer below:
