President Orange Jello has more to complain about on Twitter, as a federal court has ordered the U.S. military to commence with accepting transgender individuals, effective January 1, 2018. This runs quite contrary to Jello’s regressive effort to ban trans people from the military.
U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly had placed an injunction on the ban last month, and the Justice Department, headed by Keebler Elf Jeff Sessions, was in the process of appealing that injunction. However, the department first asked the judge to clarify if Defense Secretary James Mattis would be stopped from “exercising his discretion to defer the January 1, 2018 effective date for the accession.” Basically, they wanted to know if trans recruits could be turned away while the ban was argued in courts.
This cowardly tap dance evolves from a 2016 order by Obama Administration Defense Secretary Ashton Carter that stated transgender folks could enlist in the military by July 1, 2017. Mattis pushed this back to January 1, 2018. The Justice Department was trying to get the date deferred again until kingdom come, but Kollar-Kotelly went nuh-uh:
“The Court explained that the effect of its Order was to revert to the status quo with regard to accession and retention that existed before the issuance of the Presidential Memorandum,” she wrote. “Those policies allowed for the accession of transgender individuals into the military beginning on January 1, 2018. Any action by any of the Defendants that changes this status quo is preliminarily enjoined.”
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! This makes TWO federal judges, Kollar-Kotelly in D.C and U.S. District Judge Marvin Garbis in Baltimore, who have blocked Orange Creamsicle’s flimsy scapegoating order.
