Cher, currently a notable thorn-in-Trump’s-side-on-Twitter, will be the subject of what will probably be the most successful Broadway musical ever.
Helmed by Jason Moore, director of Pitch Perfect as well as stage musical Avenue Q, the project is slated for Broadway in 2018. The book is by Rick Elice—who wrote for the stage The Addams Family and Jersey Boys—and the music will celebrate Cher’s extensive list of greatest hits.
The onetime babysitter to Anthony Kiedis characteristically tweeted her enthusiasm after a clandestine reading of the show: “I SOBBED & LAUGHED, & I WAS PREPARED NOT 2LIKE IT. AUDIENCE CLAPPED AFTER SONGS, & GAVE IT STANDING OVATION.”
Let’s hope production design combines the groovy glamour of The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour set with giant emojis of honeybees, palpitating rainbow hearts and angry poops. Costumes by Bob Mackie, of course.
