Stop me, oh, stop me, stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before. Morrissey has made inflammatory statements again. This time, regarding Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and one of his favorite targets, immigration, during an interview with German news site Spiegel Online.
While promoting his new album Low In High School, Moz blamed the media for creating Donald Trump by giving him more news coverage than other candidates. He has a point. Then…he expressed happiness that folks in Britain voted in accord with the xenophobic sentiment of Brexit as it demonstrated citizens “ignored the media and decided for themselves.” Though in the past he made comments of support for Brexit, at present Moz won’t directly say if he supports the referendum, just like he won’t directly declare his sexual identity (he says he’s a “humasexual”). Puhlease.
The recent Hollywood sex scandals came up, Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey specifically, and Morrissey poo-pooed the seismic cultural shift as “a play” in which “every person on this planet is guilty” of sexual harassment. Although he made clear rape and sexual assault are abhorrent, Moz did blame alleged victim Anthony Rapp for being in Spacey’s bedroom at age 14 in the first place, and scolded Rapp’s parents for being absent.
“As far as I know, he was in a bedroom with a 14-year-old. Kevin Spacey was 26 and boy 14 was wondering where the boy’s parents were. One wonders if the boy did not know what could happen. I do not know about you, but I’ve never been in situations like this in my youth. Never. I always knew what could happen. When you are in somebody’s bedroom, you have to be aware of where that can lead to. That’s why it does not sound very credible to me. It seems to me Spacey has been unnecessarily attacked.”
Bigmouth did strike again in the interview, calling the city of Berlin the “capital of rape” because Germany has taken in refugees.
“I want Germany to be German. I want France to be French. If you try to make everything multicultural you will not have any culture in the end.”
November spawned a monster, indeed.
