Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson has officially entered the “I’m a serious actor, please give me awards now” phase of her comedy career.
For her role in 6 Balloons, a Netflix film about hilarious topics such as depression and drug addiction, Jacobson is already earning positive reviews. In addition to being described as “subtle” and “nuanced,” she has also broken out as the emotional center of the film. (She plays the enabling sister of Dave Franco’s sexy addict.)
Oh, wait, and she also totally just came out as bisexual.
In a Vanity Fair interview about the movie, Jacobson buried the lead about her sexuality while discussing such relatively boring things as her career, hopes, and dreams.
“I kind of go both ways; I date men and women,” she said, after attempting to hold our interest with such irrelevant topics as “what projects she’s currently working on” and “what it was like to have the dream job of judging RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
“They have to be funny, doing something they love,” she continued, which honestly didn’t even register with us because of the thing she just said about being bisexual.
Jacobson didn’t address the previous media speculation about her relationship with Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein, or whether Abbi on Broad City would come out now, too — but even if she did, we wouldn’t have noticed, because, again, we were still hung up on the other thing. Seriously, why is no one talking about this??
Jacobson also discussed her upcoming role as the “hard-drinking medieval princess” in Matt Groening’s new animated Netflix series Disenchantment, in which she’ll co-star alongside Nat Faxon and Eric Andre. She also hinted that the next season of Broad City might no longer bleep out President Trump’s name and that it might just refuse to mention him altogether — but honestly, we were just surprised to discover that there were more words in the interview than just “Abbi Jacobson is bisexual.”
For real, though, are y’all sleeping? Why isn’t this making headlines? Literally nothing else in the news matters today! Ugh!!
(In case you’re just now joining us: Abbi Jacobson is bisexual. Happy Monday.)
