Timothee Chalamet has a new older man in his life: Steve Carell.
No, this isn’t a sequel of Call Me By Your Name that takes place in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It’s a sad movie about meth addiction.
Beautiful Boy, which stars Chalamet as the titular boy and Carell as his supportive, heartbroken father, is already attracting Oscar buzz for both Carell and Chalamet. This would be the second stab at Oscar gold for both gents.
According to the trailer, the film will also include lots of confrontations in public places and lots of steadily uplifting indie music, in addition to the presence of Amy Ryan (a.k.a. Holly from The Office!) So maybe this IS a sequel to The Office! It’s about Michael Scott and Holly Flax after they get married and oppress all of their kids with love until one of them develops a crippling meth addiction. Cue: A talking head cutaway with Kelly Kapoor saying, “I know he’s a meth addict, but we have a real connection.” Cut to: Stanley rolling his eyes.
Beautiful Boy already attracted our attention earlier this year when Chalamet revealed that he had literally transformed himself for this role. But after having watched the trailer, we can assure you that Chalamet is still very sexy in this film — just with a slightly methy vibe. Honestly, the only disappointing aspect of his appearance is that he’s wearing a shirt most of the time.
Beautiful Boy, which is adapted from the bestselling memoirs from father-son duo David Sheff and Nic Sheff, will drag its heartbreaking ass to theaters on October 12.
