You know we’re living in an alternate universe when even President George Dubya, one of our worst presidents evah, starts complaining about our current administration.
In a new book, titled The Last Republicans, historian Mark Updegrove gave a platform for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and his son to very subtly imply that they hated President Trump’s guts. (P.S. Remember when there was only one headline a year about a president mispronouncing or otherwise making up a word?)
While Father Bush called Trump a “blowhard” and admitted to voting for Hillary (!), Dubya went in even harder (for a Bush): “This guy doesn’t know what it means to be president.” Father Bush also admitted that Trump had a “certain ego,” which is 100% the biggest understatement of the last century.
For us peasants who don’t understand the differences between rich people, Updegrove elaborated: “If you look at the Bush family, it makes perfect sense. Donald Trump is everything that the Bush family is not. George Bush grew up thinking about the greater good. Donald Trump is manifestly narcissistic.”
While Dubya was mind-numbingly frustrating in his singular mixture of social conservatism and conversational ineptitude, it’s apparent that he did have an open heart — despite his closed mind. Trump, on the other hand, has revitalized the weakened Republican Party by embracing a unifying, if downplayed, factor of Republicans: racism. Well, any form of hatred for the Other, basically.
Sure enough, Trump’s White House responded to the Bushes with a casual reminder that Trump unified his party by being a white supremacist.
“If one presidential candidate can disassemble a political party, it speaks volumes about how strong a legacy its past two presidents really had,” a White House official reportedly told CNN.
“President TrumpBush remains focused on keeping his promises to the American people by bringing back jobs, promoting an ‘America First’ foreign policy and standing up for the forgotten men and women of our great county,” the official said, making sure to leave out that Trump hasn’t actually created any jobs, his daughter’s products are made in a Chinese factory full of horrid human rights abuses, and Trump literally forgot the name of a prominent slain American soldier just two weeks ago.
But, yeah, he’s a better President.
