Defying Trump, Pentagon Pays For Trans Soldier’s Surgery

Featured, Politics

Despite Trumpcardiac’s tweetlings in August about the “disruption that transgender in the military” would cause, earlier this week the Department of Defense paid for gender-affirming surgery for a transgender active-duty infantry soldier. The service member previously fought in Afghanistan, and the procedure was approved by Vice Admiral Raquel Bono of the Defense Health Agency.

“Because this service member had already begun a sex-reassignment course of treatment, and the treating doctor deemed this surgery medically necessary, a waiver was approved by the director of the Defense Health Agency,” a Pentagon’s statement read. “The Supplemental Health Care Program will cover this surgery in accordance with the Department’s interim guidance on transgender Service members.”

Trumple is insane, and is rumored to only sleep four hours a night like so many who suffer from dementia, so those early morning bogus tweets pushing a trans ban in the military were simply hot gas after eating a nothingburger. A RAND corporation study indicates trans people serving in the military would have “minimal impact on readiness,” as opposed to Orange Globule’s “disruption” claim. Furthermore, the study estimates the cost for hormone treatments and surgeries to be $8.4 million, a miniscule fraction of the Defense Department’s budget. Defense Secretary James Mattis has held that the current Defense Department policies will remain in place, a status which requires transgender soldiers’ medical services be paid for by the Pentagon.

Trump’s ban on transgender individuals in the military was blocked last month by U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly.
