A thrice-married adulterer and a boastful pussy grabber is speaking at the Values Voters Summit sponsored by a conservative Christian group that works to “advance family, faith, and freedom.” As Alanis Morissette once sang, isn’t it ironic?
In addition to its violent, persistent attacks on trans people, the Trump administration has looked for every opportunity to chip away at the rights of queer people in the workplace and even in the freaking Census. You may also recall that it deleted the LGBTQ info page from the White House home page within, like, seconds of taking power. So basically, what we’re trying to say is that it’s not suuuuuuper surprising that Trump is about to become the first sitting President to speak at an anti-LGBTQ hate group gathering.
On Friday, Trump will reportedly speak at the “Values Voters Summit,” sponsored by the Family Research Council, which is officially classified as a hate group and is definitely just a bunch of old white dudes who had one gay thought in college and decided to spend the rest of their lives trying to convince themselves that it was only an accident that Bart touched them there.
Unsurprisingly, the event usually hosts a coalition of white supremacists, far right activists and religious extremists. Outspoken homophobe Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty will be there, as will our pal Roy Moore, the Alabama Senator candidate who recently said he “doesn’t know” whether or not queer people should be put to death. Dude, the answer is “no they shouldn’t.” If you think otherwise, then at least have the balls to say so. Again unsurprisingly, Moore has ties to an extremist pastor who actually did say that queer people should be put to death.
Just to get its point across that all queer people are natural enemies of human decency, this event also will host Steve Scalise as a speaker. You may recall that Scalise had his life saved by a lesbian police officer after being shot in June. Like a good Christian, Scalise has chosen to repay her by tirelessly working to take all her rights away.
Stay tuned for our full recap Friday! It’s like Must-See-TV except it’s about our right not to be killed over where we put our penises and vaginas.
